very good supplement to other books on Bordeaux

This is a very enjoyable book to leaf through, filled with a variety of photographs along with many interesting sidebars and lists of wines to sample; however, because the focus is on Clarke's love affair with the Bordeaux region and its wines, and because much of the text assumes knowledge of complex subject matter that many readers will not have, it's not necessarily a good primer for those who are just beginning to make their way through the maze of Bordeaux wines. Look to Stephen Brook's "The Complete Bordeaux" for that.

A couple of other caveats: Clarke could have used a better editor as many sentences ramble on to the point of incomprehension. And while the book is filled with gorgeous photographs, I would like to have seen fewer photos in which the author appears. Do we really need to see Oz Clarke getting a facial in a Bordeaux spa?

Despite these quibbles, "Oz Clarke's Bordeaux" is a fascinatingly eclectic book that any Bordeaux enthusiast would do well to have on their shelf. I bought a copy through an Amazon reseller for a few dollars - a steal at that price.

Excellent at doing what it aims to do

Is this a complete treatise on Bordeaux? No! If you want that, Stephen Brook fills the role really well. If you want a multitude of tasting notes, Broadbent and (sigh) Parker offer that. But if what you're aiming for is an eminently digestible, easy read that entertains as well as informs, you've found it.

This was one of the first books on Bordeaux I read and coming back to it after a while, I'm really struck by how upbeat Clarke is. There's no terrible complaint and dissatisfaction, just a "different strokes for different folks" attitude written by a guy who's clearly in love with the region. I get the sense that he enjoys tasting these wines more than he enjoys giving them a score, which I think is something that can't so frequently be said anymore.

In short, an excellent, brief overview of the region and its chateaux as well as some useful travel tips.

I purchased this a a gift to accompany a bottle of wine (purchased in Bordeaux) that we gave as a Christmas gift. The book included the Château the wine came from. I reading through the book I found it easy to locate items as you would any reference book along with parts organized as a non reference book. It is not very thick and not overwhelming for someone just learning about Bordeaux wine or someone more experienced that wants a quick compact reference on just Bordeaux wine.

A rowdy must read!

Meadow DeVor and the rowdy writers just absolutely blow me away. Honest, raw and real, these women share without apology and with total reverence for living their truth. Inspiring feels like too small of a word to describe the hopeful authenticity with which these phenomenal women tell their stories. Each vignette into a rowdy life shares a key tenet of how they undid years of debilitating thought patterns. It's not a preachy rah rah self help book. It's a portrayal of lives turned around in a bold, bad as_ way through the no holds barred coaching approach of Meadow DeVor. Beautifully written. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

This book is a good introduction to multiple imputation. I found it easy to read and practical. I like that the book presents several applications with data analysis softwares (like SPSS). The authors also compares several techniques of data imputations and explains why multiple imputation is the best approach.

This "book" is not even worth 5 dollars as all this information can be found online for free (there are free videos on youtube saying exactly what is in this book). I thought this book would have more helpful information, but no! What a waste of 5 dollars!

Very inspiring

In search of music education is a very inspiring book that brings into question the concept of a worldly music education. An education for everyone, that is all encompassing. The book first defines education, then music, then music education. It presents the problems with each segment and unites those problems dialectically; this approach solves the presented problems of music education. A great read for those willing to truly grasp the philosophy. Do not skim it or it will not make sense as is clear the first reviewer did... c'mon, it's less than 120 pages... finish the book before bashing it, and she quotes John Dewey a lot this is true but credit is always given... I loved it!

This book is a waste of time. It is boring, pedantic, unoriginal, forced, poorly written and of no practical use to music educators. Most of the theoretical ideas do not belong to Jorgensen herself; she owes her few good ideas to other scholars in music education who Jorgensen fails to credit. So, add poor scholarship to the above.

This volume is the first major English-language commentary on the Epistle to Diognetus since that of Henry G. Meecham in 1949. Its purpose is twofold: to provide careful consideration to the essential introductory issues of authorship and setting, structure and integrity, theology, relationship to scripture, and historical trajectory as they apply to the transmission of the text; and to offer commentary focused on the movement of the author's argument and objectives in construction of the narrative, taking advantage of critical considerations of the apology within recent scholarship. In the final analysis the volume arrives at the premise that the core materials of Diognetus were likely delivered first in an oral context whose setting remains unknown and were thereafter recorded by a later hand as the framework of chapters 1-10. A subsequent editor (perhaps Clement of Alexandria) added the concluding materials of chapters 11-12 together with the insertion of numerous hymnic segments and theological phrases throughout chapters 1-10. These additions were inspired by Johannine tradition and reflect the setting of a living faith community. The text of Diognetus thus reflects an evolutionary process that moves from oral performance to literary record, from moral teaching to theological homily. The format of the volume is designed to welcome the non-specialist to the text of Diognetus while exposing the reader to the best of both earlier and more recent critical comments on the writing and its tradition.

Weaving together fascinating ethnographic research on beauty practices and insights from political economy theory, the book presents a feminist analysis of the global economy of beauty.

Rather than a sign of frivolity, the beauty economy is intimately connected to youth's social and economic development. Cosmetic makeovers have become a modern rite of passage for girls, enabling social connections and differentiations, as well as entrepreneurial activities. The global beauty economy is a phenomenon generated by young people, mostly women, laboring in, teaching, and consuming beauty --- and eager for belonging and originality, using every mechanism at their disposal to enhance their appearance. As McCracken shows, globalization is not homogenizing beauty standards to a Western ideal; rather, it is diversifying beauty standards. The Beauty Trade explains how globalization, combined with youth's desires for uniqueness, is enabling the spread of a diversity of beauty cultures, including alternative visions of gender appropriate looks and behavior.
